Good Bot / Bad Bot

The world is filled with conversations. Conversations that aren’t human-to-human. Conversations with bots, about bots and from bots. Unfortunately, some bots have spoiled it for all the other nice bots just trying to be helpful.

Many companies have taken AI technology and used it for robo-calling to pretend like a person to gather info and get you into a sales funnel. Mostly, it’s legit sales tactics, but it’s put a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. They are giving bots a bad reputation. These bots may very well be less effective after each call.

Other entities who shall remain nameless (because we don’t know who they are) employ bots to pretend like social media accounts. These are bots from the dark side. They have no good intentions other than to trick people into fraudulent transactions. It’s relatively easy to spot one of these bots, because they use stock photos and random generated usernames (i.e. phillygirl333588).

Thankfully, there are good bots. The ones who are trained to answer questions very efficiently and help solve problems faster than humans could. These are upstanding and helpful bots whose mission it is to serve people. These bots are paving the way toward the next generation of computing.
